General Services

We offer a wide selection of outdoor equipment. Kalamazoo and Portage, MI residents come to our store for backpacking, skiing, kayaking and traveling supplies for both summer and winter activities.

Backpack Fitting
Lee’s guarantees a proper backpack fit. We will measure your torso length, correctly position your shoulder harness, and determine the proper waist belt size - all with a loaded pack. This service is free for any packs bought from our store and $20 for all other packs.

Tent Pole Repair
Lee’s can help re-string broken tent poles. We have various diameters of shock-cord and tent pole segments available. $5 plus cost of materials.

Shoe, Boot & Foot Bed Services
Lee’s offers fit analysis and adjustment for shoes, hiking boots, alpine ski boots, Nordic ski boots and snowboard boots. Lee’s also offers pre-formed and custom molded foot beds for excellent foot support.

Youth Equipment Buyback Program
Purchase junior ski equipment from Lee’s at regular price from September 1st to February 1st. Enjoy skiing the rest of the winter with your new junior ski equipment. Southwest, MI customers can bring in the non-fitting equipment with your sales receipt on September 1st of the following year and Lee’s will buy back (for store credit only) the junior equipment at 50% of the regular price if the equipment is one year old or 25% of the regular price if the equipment is two years old.

Alpine Ski Demo Program
Lee’s offers our customers the chance to “try before you buy” on outdoor equipment. Southwest, MI customers can try some of the new models of alpine skis that we carry in stock. $30.00 for the first day, $15.00 for each additional day. The first day rental fee can be used towards a ski purchase. Your own ski boots and poles are required.

Alpine Binding Installation
This service includes placing the binding and boot at the correct position on the ski, adjusting the binding to the boot and to the skier settings, and then testing the binding for the correct release and retention values.

Alpine Binding Remount
This service includes removing the binding from current position and filling original holes or resetting the ski/binding interface, then placing the binding and boot at the correct position on the ski, adjusting the binding to the boot and to the skier settings, then testing the binding for the correct release and retention values.

Telemark/Custom Binding Install
This service includes installation of a binding without the assistance of a brand made hole jig. Skis are measured and the hole pattern is place based on specified measurements provided by the binding company. The binding is then adjusted to the boot and to the skier settings, and then, if required, tested for the correct release and retention values.

This service includes evaluating a rider's stance, adjusting the position of the bindings and adjustment of the binding straps to the rider's boots.

Basic Tune: Alpine Ski and Snowboard
Base and side edges are cleaned, sharpened, beveled and deburred. Deeper scratches and gouges will remain. No P-Tex is used. Hot roll wax is applied and buffed with a roll wax machine. Base and side edge bevel is 1 degree.

Stone Grind Tune (No Base Repair): Alpine Ski and Snowboard
Base and side edges are cleaned, sharpened, beveled, and deburred. Base and side edged bevel is 1 degree. Base material is flattened and structured with a standard crosshatch pattern using the Micro 91 Stone Grinder. This removes small surface scratches and scuff marks.Deeper scratches and gouges will remain. No P-Tex fill is used. Hot wax is applied by hand, ironed and buffed to a polished finish.

Alpine Race Tune
Base and side edges are hand filed and honed to custom degree settings. Base material is flattened and structured with a custom crosshatch pattern using the Micro 91 Stone Grinder. Custom temperature specific LF grade hot wax is applied, ironed and buffed to a polished finish.

XC Base Tune
Nordic (cross country) ski bases can wear out and become fuzzy from friction, sticks, and stones. A Nordic stonegrind tune removes the polyethelyne hairs and smooths out the base. No-wax models are tuned on the tip and tail glide zone only. A rub-on glide was is then applied

XC Pine Tar & Polar Wax
Nordic skis with wood bases need to be conditioned before we can apply the base wax. This process is called "pine tarring." The old layer of pine tar must be removed before the new layer can be applied. The polar base wax then goes on over the pine tar. The kick zone and glide zone waxes are applied by the skier according to the current temperature of the day. Kick and glide wax are not included.

Top Sheet Epoxy
Impact and core exposure can separate the top layer of the ski or snowboard construction. This damage must be repaired to prevent moisture and contamination from damaging the core.

Core Seal
Base repair to gouges that expose the core. Repair includes sealing the core and filling the remaining gouge with P-Tex. A Stone Grind and Base Repair Tune are required for this repair.

Roll Wax (no rust on edges)
A universal temperature hot wax is applied with a hot roller. Then buffed and brushed to a polished finish. Good for an inexpensive boost to speed and control.

Hand Wax (no rust on edges)
A universal temperature hot wax is iron dripped onto the ski or snowboard, ironed, buffed, and brushed to a polished finish. Hand waxes last longer than a roll wax and provided more performance with fewer applications.

Custom Wax: Tune Required
Wax is iron dripped onto the ski or snowboard, ironed in, buffed, and brushed to a polished finish. Wax selection is tailored to temperature and snow conditions for optimal speed and control.

Summer Wax: Tune Required
A universal temperature hot wax is iron dripped onto the ski or snowboard covering and protecting the edges for the off season. Wax is scraped, buffed, and brushed to a polished finish prior to the next season.
